With so many of us trying to set up our own home based businesses, the question on everybody’s lips is ‘how can I find the best home business ideas?’ Unfortunately, it is not that simple to answer. Before you can know what home based business is best for you, you have to know what you want and why you want it. Those are two very difficult questions to answer for many people.

Let's start with the first question: What do you want? Go ahead and take a few minutes to list about ten things you want. Hmmmm... Not very easy, is it? That’s because most people adults don't know what it is they want. It may help to think of what you don't want. Then based on what you don't want, make a list of what you do want.

Do you want to make money by the bucket load? Do you want a new car? Maybe you want more time with the family. The home business you choose needs to reflect what you want. For example: If you want to travel, then you want an Internet based business, or at least a business that you can run on the road. If you all you want is some extra cash to pay for ballet and karate classes, then a pet or child care business may be right for you.

Then there is the "why." Why do you want it? If you want a home based business for the financial independence, then you will need a completely different business than a mother who just wants to be home when her kids get home from school. The "why" will help you keep focus and knowing why you are working so hard will keep you going through the hard times and push you to make good choices. So take some time to determine why you want to run your own business.

Once you know the "what" and the "why" behind your decision, you can then start on the "how." There are many business opportunities out there for those who know what they want, and you can find more than enough resources to teach you what you need to know, but first you have to know what you want and why you want it.
